Building on a strong foundation
Although safety gear manufacturer and supplier Proguard Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd faces countless challenges on a daily basis, it stays true to its beliefs of integrity and quality.
It is this steadfast conviction – along with other core values – that has propelled the company’s growth through the economic crises of 1997 and 2008, building a strong brand by word-of-mouth.
Some of its customers, particularly those in Australia, have been continuously buying products from Proguard for the last 18 to 19 years.
While competition is ongoing, its co-founder and chief operation officer Datuk Lee Ngai Mun says the ability to consistently deliver on promises and go the extra mile to support customers will be the factor that determines its success in the long run.
Dealing with costs is also a constant challenge, but Lee opines: “Inflation went up, so although there’s growth in turnover, profitability went down a bit, but every businessman faces the same thing.
“In business, you have to be very optimistic; you can’t always think negatively. I’ve been doing business for more than 30 years and there are always ups and downs, so it’s about trying to save as much as possible during the good times, then pulling through the rainy days with those resources.”
